When your child is a baby, decorating their room is, to put it simply, child’s play – you usually have pink stuff for a girl and blue stuff for a boy, you might even venture for cream or lemon if you don’t know if it is going to be a girl or a boy.
Come school age, decorating a child’s bedroom becomes a bit more tricky. Not only does the average child bring with them a whole arsenal of toys, clothes, books, school equipment and general stuff, their bedroom changes from a room just to sleep in to everything from a social club, study area, play room, craft workshop and hideaway.
Usually kids will have designs in mind of their own, and whilst you might not always agree with their choices, if you stick to a few basic rules you should be able to come up with a comfortable and practical bedroom that you both love.
Plan ahead – that toddler bed might look attractive when they are three, but give them a couple of years and you’ll end up with long legs dangling over the end of it.
Storage, storage and more storage – you can’t have too much storage to cope with their ever-increasing possessions.
Themes – unless you are prepared to change their bedroom regularly, best to either steer away from themes or use items sparingly that can be replaced when they’ve ceased to be flavour of the month.
Make it kid-proof – after the age of three, up to about ten, kids are basically monkeys – chairs are for leaping off, beds are for bouncing on and anything high is for swinging on. There’s no place for flimsy MDF in a real kid’s room.
Choose furniture to last – if you choose carefully, furniture you buy now could last until you send them off to college. Go for classic styles and sturdy, quality items that have a chance of withstanding the abuse your children will subject them to.
When our buyers here at Forrest Furnishing were looking at extending our range of children’s furniture from just plain basic bunk beds, we came across a company that ticked all the boxes for us. Cresta Pine Furniture has been designing and producing an exclusive range of furniture for over 50 years – a family company who manufactures every item to the highest standard and quality in their factory in Yorkshire.
Their Scallywag Colours range immediately caught our eye – a range that would grow with children from their first bed right through to teenage years. A range that gives kids the flexibility to create and evolve their own space, especially when they are older and know everything!
Cresta source all of their pine products from the pine forests of Northern Scandinavia to ensure a sound and tight-grained timber. All their bunk beds are designed to meet current Safety Legislation requirements; bunk bed safety is of paramount importance to Cresta.
Their company statement ‘Inspired by Children – Designed by Parents’ is a very real concept for Cresta. The flexibility of the range with a choice of two frame colours combined with seven exciting panel colours provides starter beds, cabin beds, bunk beds and conversion kits and furniture that can be mixed and matched over and over again.
The possibilities with Scallywag Colours are almost endless – the only limit is your own imagination! If you want to have a look at this range in more detail why not click here to see the range on our website.
